I am actually glad that things have happened despite the initial setbacks. I am hoping this will be a very creative time for all kind of projects. I'm returning more slowly to poems, but am carving out some daily writing time to allow myself a path back without too much pressure. I've loved following your blog and learning from such a lovely momma-poet. <3

Re: recent inspirations

Thank you, Hannah! I have heard of Erin/Design for Mankind but haven't actively followed. I certainly will check it out. Hope all is well with you!

Re: learning, waiting.

I'm sorry to hear about how tricky it has been for you, but I'm glad you are getting the care that you need, that you live in a place that can provide that. I know this isn't the same thing, but when I got budget cut from my high school teaching job, I took it as a sign to finally do the MFA, and now here I am, writing and parenting full-time. Our journeys take us to unexpected places, and I hope this story is peaceful and yes, boring, and ends with a healthy mama and baby. And some beautiful work--poems, design, what-have-you. Thinking of you. xo

Re: recent inspirations

Nikki, your perspective is great. I'd imagine that it's pretty challenging to be hospitalized (though I'm glad you are safe and healthy!), but you seem to be taking it in stride, somehow. Rock on, girl!

I imagine that you already read this blog, but your thoughts made me think of Design for Mankind. I love Erin Loechner, and what she's been doing at her site lately---lots of thinking about how personal, public, and creative life intertwine: http://www.designformankind...

Keep me posted on your projects! xo

Re: learning, waiting.

Me and Lindsey love you guys! I read something about his new book before. He gets some flack in the literary world, but I love his other books. I've done some books (or pages) like this and they are a lot of fun. Mary Ruefle did a book where she whited things out called "Little White Shadow" if you're interested.

Re: Do you judge a book by its cover?

The title of this post reminded me of an interview I read recently with Jonathan Safran Foer where he talks about how authors ought to care what their books look like. http://artsbeat.blogs.nytim... Particularly the first question.
